One Year Post-M.Sc. Diploma Course in Radiological Physics (DIP.R.P.)

Radiological Physics and Advisory Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai has been conducting the One Year Post-M.Sc. Diploma Course in Radiological Physics since 1962. 46th One Year Post-M.Sc. Diploma Course in Radiological Physics is scheduled to commence from second week of October 2007. In addition to twentyfive general candidates, five candidates sponsored by the hospitals having radiotherapy facilities will also be admitted. The sponsored candidates should have at least one year of previous experience in radiological work in a hospital or industry (with documentary evidence of having availed personnel monitoring service).

1. Course Content

The course contents covers radiation physics, radiation chemistry, radiation biology, electronics and instrumentation, statistics, computational methods, applications of radioisotopes in medicine, industry research & agriculture and radiation hazards evaluation and control. Candidates will also be trained in the safe use of radiation & radioisotopes in medicine, industry, agriculture and research. The training is supplemented by exhaustive experiments, demonstrations, visit to hospitals, industries and other Divisions of BARC. The medium of instruction is English. The course is primarily to qualify the successful candidates as Medical Physicists to work in cancer hospitals.

2. Minimum Qualification

Masters degree in Physics with minimum 50% marks, preferably with an aptitude to work in cancer hospitals.

3. Age Limit

Candidates born on or after October 01, 1979 for general category and on or after October 01, 1967, for sponsored category are only eligible to apply. Age relaxation of 5 years is applicable to SC/ST candidates and 3 years for OBC candidates.

4. Procedure for Selection

Candidates, based on the percentage of marks obtained in their M.Sc. degree, will be short listed and called for a written test cum interview to be conducted at Mumbai may be by the first week of September 2007. Selected candidates will be admitted to the course subject to their being found medically fit after a medical examination at BARC hospital in Mumbai.

5. Travelling Allowance

Candidates called for interview are eligible for a Single Sleeper Class Railway fare from his/her place of normal residence to Mumbai and back by the shortest route on production of a railway ticket/ticket number. However, sponsored candidates will not be paid any travelling allowance for attending the interview.

6. Stipend

A stipend of Rs.3000/- per month will be given to each trainee excluding the trainees admitted under Sponsored Category. The trainees will have to bear their expenses of boarding, lodging, etc. during the entire period of stay at Mumbai as well as during the six week field training in reputed radiotherapy hospital outside Mumbai.

7. Employment Opportunities

First few rank-holders are likely to be absorbed in BARC/DAE as Scientific Officers in the grade of Scientific Officer (C) if found suitable by the Selection Committee. The successful candidates qualify for employment as Medical Physicist in cancer hospitals, working alongside clinicians in providing scientific and technical expertise and conducting research. They are also qualified to serve as Radiological Safety Officers in research and industrial institutions handling radioisotopes and ionizing radiations.

8. Bond

Each selected candidate has to execute a bond in the prescribed form. In the event of their leaving the course before the completion of the stipulated period, they have to refund the entire amount of stipend received by them together with interest thereon.

9. University Fees

Selected candidates have to pay in all a sum of about Rs.3000/- in the form of Demand Draft drawn in favour of Accounts Officer, HBNI, payable at Mumbai, at the time of admission.

10. Accommodation During Training Period

The trainees may apply for hostel accommodation in Bhabha Atomic Research Centre Training School Hostel at Anushaktinagar, Mumbai - 400 094. They will, however, have to pay for their boarding and lodging in the hostel.

11. Award of Diploma

At the end of the course, each successful candidate will be awarded a Diploma in Radiological Physics (Dip.R.P.) by Homi Bhabha National Institute, a deemed University.

12. Application Fee

Each application should be accompanied by a non-refundable Crossed Indian Postal Order/Demand Draft of Rs.50/- payable to the Dy. Controller of Accounts, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai. SC/ST candidates, disabled Defence Service Personnel and dependents of Defence Service Personnel killed in action and ex-service persons are exempted from paying the application fee.

How to Apply

a) Single copy of application, preferably typewritten on thick A4 paper (size: 29.7cm X 21 cm) should be submitted as per proforma given below.

b) Photograph: Two recent photographs (passport size). One duly signed, should be pasted at the marked place in the application and other with name of the applicant written in block letters on the reverse, should be enclosed.

c) Envelope: A self addressed unstamped envelope (size: 23cm X 10cm) should be attached to the application.

d) Copies of Certificates : Attested copies of all certificates for (a) Educational and technical qualifications, (b) Date of birth and (c) Caste certificate (for SC/ST/OBC candidates) must be attached.

e) The envelope containing the application should be superscribed “Application for Dip.R.P.- (2007-08)”.

f) Applications complete in all respect should be sent to so as to reach her not later than July 27, 2007.

General Instructions to Candidates

1. While sponsoring a candidate, the institution must certify that the candidate is a full time/permanent employee actually employed by them and on successful completion of the course, he/she would be designated as Medical Physicist/Radiological Safety Officer (format given below).

2. Persons working under the Central/State Governments or Public Sector Undertakings should submit their applications through proper channel. They may however, send an advance copy of the application along with enclosures as detailed above.

3. Applicants will be required to submit their original M.Sc. degree certificates at the time of admission.

4. Candidates whose result for M.Sc. examination is not available at the time of applying need not apply.

5.i) Applications which are not in conformity with the requirements indicated in the advertisement will be rejected.

ii) Mere fulfilling of requirement as laid down in the advertisement does not qualify a candidate for written test cum interview.

iii) No correspondence shall be entertained from candidates not called for written test cum interview or not selected for admission to the course.

iv) Canvassing in any form will be a disqualification.
