Examination name : BioInformatics National Certification (BINC) Examination
Eligibility: Graduates/Post-graduates/PhD in Science, Technology, Pharmacy, Engineering, Agriculture, Veterinary and Medical Sciences, Ayurveda, Homeopathy from recognized Indian Universities and Institutions with or without formal training in Bioinformatics.
Application procedure: The online application can be filled from 10th November 2006 to 30th January 2007. National advisory committee approved syllabus is available online. The examination fee is Rs. 600/- for general and Rs. 450/- for reserved category (as per government of India rule) and is scheduled on 24-25 february 2007. The paper I will be objective type. The paper II will be short answer type, while the paper III will be a computer-based practical. This year a cash prize will be awarded to the top 5 bioinformaticians.

Pattern of Examination 1.The examination consists of THREE papers. Paper I (Morning); Type: Objective ; Date of Exam: February 24, 2007; Duration: 2 hours Paper II (Morning); Type: Short answers; Date of Exam: February 25, 2007; Duration: 3 hours Paper III (Afternoon); Type: Practicals; Date of Exam: February 25, 2007; Duration: 2 hours 2.The syllabus consists of four sections - Biology, Physical & Chemical Sciences, Information Technology and Bioinformatics. The Sample questions are also available online. 3.Paper I (basic) & Paper II (advanced) will include questions as described in the syllabus. 4.Important points to note: a)For Paper I there will be negative marking of 0.33 per question. b)Results of the Paper I will be announced at the respective centres by 6:00PM. c)Candidates securing 40% or above marks in Paper I ONLY will be eligible for Paper II and III. d) Candidates scoring overall 50% or above will be certified.
