Trainee Navigating Officer Cadet (TNOC)
Eligibility criteria
Eligibility: Pass in the HSC/equivalent with P, C, and M as separate subjects.
Age not exceeding 20 years
BSc degree holders in Physics, Maths or Chemistry with Physics and Maths as separate subjects in first and second years are also eligible if they are below 22 years. Upper age limit for BE/BTech is 23 years as on date mentioned in notification Relaxation: 5 years for SC/ST; 3 years for OBC candidates.
IIT-JEE Candidates with defective colour vision/or not having normal 6/6 vision in each eye or any defects will be rejected. Career Prospects: After successful completion of the pre-sea training the incumbents are appointed as TNOCs in the Shipping Corporation of India. A further 24 months onboard training is provided by the SCI which provides free board and lodging, and also pays a stipend as per Corporations Service Conditions.
On successful completion of training on-board, the incumbent is eligible to appear for 2nd Mates (Foreign Going) Certificate of Competency. On obtaining the 2nd Mates (FG) Certificate of Competency, they will be appointed as Junior Navigating Officers in the Corporation at an approximate gross salary of Rs. 25,000 per month. With further experience in their sea-faring career and on obtaining higher certificates of competency, the incumbents will have the opportunity to rise to the rank of master (captain).
Selected candidates have to sign an agreement to serve the SCI Ltd. for a minimum period of three years after they complete their training as TNOCs and obtaining 2nd mates (FG) Certificate of Competency.
