Directorate of Medical Education and Research controls and supervises the working of 42 institutions viz; Medical and Dental Colleges, Teaching Hospitals and Health Units under its purview to achieve and maintain academic standards.

Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) Mumbai Maharashtra supervises the Medical Education i.e. Under Graduate , Post Graduate and Super Specialisation. It also co-ordinates the Research activities in Fundamental Research , Applied Research & Operational Research in the Institutions under its control and through Out-reach Services. This enables the Government to improve Health Status of the people in the society.

The Director is the head of the Department and is assisted by The Joint Directors. The Superintendent of Nursing Services is in charge of Nursing Education and works under the Director.

The Director Medical Education and Research is the competent authority for Common Entrance Test for admission to Health Science Courses (MH-CET).

Research is collaborated with national / international organizations and carried out at all institutions as a part of Postgraduate training. Independent research is also carried out by staff members of various disciplines. Research undertaken by staff members is presented in different national and international conferences and published in various journals. Karnataka Common Entrance Test - CETThe Karnataka Common Entrance Test and Aptitude Test is being conducted for the purpose of determining the eligibility / merit, for admission of Karnataka candidates to the First year or First semester of full time courses in Medical, Dental, Ayurveda, Unani, Homoeopathy, Naturopathy & Yoga, Engineering, Technology and Architecture courses, in institutions within the State of Karnataka.

Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka -(COMEDK UGET)

The consortium is a unit established by the Karnataka Private Medical / Dental Colleges Association. Only those colleges which are affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences and recognised by the Medical Council of India / Dental Council of India are eligible for the membership of COMEDK. The consortium will conduct the Common Entrance Test on behalf of management who are its members for admission to professional courses.

AIPMT-All India Pre-Medical Test

All India Pre-Medical / Pre-Dental Entrance Test (AIPMT) is a national level entrance examination conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) . The admission for 15% of the total seats for medical/dental bachelor degree courses in medical colleges run by Union of India, state government, municipal and other local authorities in India except the state of Jammu & Kashmir is made on the basis of AIPMT merit list.

As per the revised scheme, the AIPMT examination is conducted in two stages :
Preliminary Examination and Final Examination .

Combined Entrance Examination (CEE), Delhi University

The University of Delhi conducts a Combined Entrance Examination (CEE) for admission to first Semester of Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) degree courses. The CEE is held for Delhi region candidates only. The candidates who has passed / passing the qualifying examination from School / College / Institute located within the National Capital Territory of Delhi can appear for CEE. The candidates who stand out in merit list of CEE will be eligible to take admission into B.E. degree courses of Delhi College of Engineering (DCE) New Delhi and Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology (NSIT) New Delhi.

85% seats are reserved for the students of Delhi in Delhi College of Engineering (DCE) and Netaji Subhash Institute of Technology (NSIT). However, 15% seats in both the colleges are filled by the outside Delhi candidates.

Outside Delhi candidates are need to appear and stand in merit of All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) to take admission either in Delhi College of Engineering (DCE) New Delhi, or Netaji Subhash Institute of Technology (NSIT) New Delhi.

Delhi College of Engineering (DCE) has produced over the past 63 years, approximately 23,000 graduates and post-graduates in engineering and technology. It has attained a level of maturity to amply qualify for being made a Deemed University. The Cabinet Committee of Govt. of Delhi has approved the Deemed to be University status to DCE and the proposal is under active consideration of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Govt. of India.

Netaji Subhash Institute of Technology (NSIT) New Delhi formerly known as Delhi Institute of Technology (DIT) New Delhi is also an institution of national importance. The Commonwealth Executive MBA/MPA has been offered since mid-2002 through four premier South Asian open universities: Indira Gandhi National Open University, (IGNOU - India), Bangladesh Open University (BOU - Bangladesh), Open University of Sri Lanka (OUSL - Sri Lanka), and Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU - Pakistan), although the last, AIOU, began offering courses in early 2003. The CEMBA/CEMPA was designed, developed and implemented as a result of collaboration between the four universities and writers from universities in Commonwealth countries like Australia, New Zealand and Canada. This was brokered by COL with funding assistance from the Commonwealth Fund for Technical Co-operation (CFTC).

The CEMBA/CEMPA program provides an opportunity to acquire both accreditation and valuable training for candidates who are resident of a participating country, possess any sort of undergraduate degree (or have worked in a related field for at least two years) and can pass a test of professional experience and English fluency. Projections for the CEMBA/CEMPA promise a significant short- and long-term human and economic development pay-off for the South Asian Commonwealth region.
