Test Details
Candidates are required to take Common Admission Test (CAT) which is common to both Post Graduate as well as FPM/Doctoral Programs of all the IIMs.
Alternatively, they can take GATE, GRE and JRF of UGC and CSIR. Candidates who have already obtained a PGDM from any of the IIMs with a minimum CGPA of 6.0 on a 10 point scale or equivalent need not take CAT and can apply directly through the prescribed FPM application form.
Interested candidates are required to rake the Common Admission Test (CAT) of IIMs or GMAT / GRE / GATE / UGC JRF (Research) for some
Pattern of Examination
GATE entrance examination is single paper of 3 hours duration and of 150 marks. The question paper is in English only. Before applying for GATE entrance examination, a candidates must assure that he/she has chosen the right optional subject, which enables him/her to become eligible to seek admission to the programme of interest. The criteria for postgraduate admission with scholarship/assistantship are different in various Institutes. GATE Offices are not in a position to provide any information in this regard.

Introduction
GATE - Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is an All-India Examination conducted by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and the seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT’s). This test is conducted on behalf of the National Coordinating Board - GATE, Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Government of India. GATE is a passport for admission into ME and MTech courses in almost all the colleges / institutes / universities of the country.
