Pattern of Examination GATE entrance examination is single paper of 3 hours duration and of 150 marks. The question paper is in English only. Before applying for GATE entrance examination, a candidates must assure that he/she has chosen the right optional subject, which enables him/her to become eligible to seek admission to the programme of interest. The criteria for postgraduate admission with scholarship/assistantship are different in various Institutes. GATE Offices are not in a position to provide any information in this regard. The choice of the paper is the responsibility of the candidate.
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering(GATE) Introduction GATE - Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is an All-India Examination conducted by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and the seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT’s). This test is conducted on behalf of the National Coordinating Board - GATE, Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Government of India. GATE is a passport for admission into ME and MTech courses in almost all the colleges / institutes / universities of the country. Application You may apply online by visiting concern institute’s website. You could also obtain the brochure and application form from the GATE offices of the zone in which you select your test centre on payment of the prescribed amount by demand draft drawn in favour of the concerned institute. You could also obtain the brochure and application form by post, by sending a request to the Chairman, GATE, at any of the IITs and IISc. Eligibility Eligibility for Appearing in GATE Eligibility criteria for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering are - Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology/Architecture/Pharmacy or those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes. Master's degree holders in any branch of Science / Mathematics / Statistics / Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes. Candidates in the second or higher year of the Four-year Integrated Master's degree programme (Post-B.Sc.) in Engineering/Technology or in the third or higher year of Five-year Integrated Master's degree programme and Dual Degree programme in Engineering/Technology. Stipend Candidates who have passed Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) examination will be eligible to get a stipend up to Rs.2,500/- per men sum from University Grants Commission (UGC) depending on the performance in M.E./ M.Tech. Examination.
Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED) Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED) is conducted by Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, on behalf of the Ministry of Human Resources Development (HRD), Department of Education (DAE), Government of India. CEED is the qualifying examination for admission to Post Graduate M.Des. (i.e. Master of Design) programmes at the Industrial Design Centre (IIT Bombay), Inter disciplinary Industrial Design Programme (IIT Delhi), Centre for Product Design and Manufacturing (IISc Bangalore) and Design Programme (IIT Kanpur). Test Details Candidates are required to take Common Admission Test (CAT) which is common to both Post Graduate as well as FPM/Doctoral Programs of all the IIMs. Alternatively, they can take GATE, GRE and JRF of UGC and CSIR. Candidates who have already obtained a PGDM from any of the IIMs with a minimum CGPA of 6.0 on a 10 point scale or equivalent need not take CAT and can apply directly through the prescribed FPM application form.
