IIT - GATE : Pattern of Examination

Pattern of Examination GATE entrance examination is single paper of 3 hours duration and of 150 marks. The question paper is in English only. Before applying for GATE entrance examination, a candidates must assure that he/she has chosen the right optional subject, which enables him/her to become eligible to seek admission to the programme of interest. The criteria for postgraduate admission with scholarship/assistantship are different in various Institutes. GATE Offices are not in a position to provide any information in this regard. The choice of the paper is the responsibility of the candidate.

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering(GATE) Introduction GATE - Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is an All-India Examination conducted by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and the seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT’s). This test is conducted on behalf of the National Coordinating Board - GATE, Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Government of India. GATE is a passport for admission into ME and MTech courses in almost all the colleges / institutes / universities of the country. Application You may apply online by visiting concern institute’s website. You could also obtain the brochure and application form from the GATE offices of the zone in which you select your test centre on payment of the prescribed amount by demand draft drawn in favour of the concerned institute. AIMT : Syllabus

Syllabus The syllabus for Common Entrance Test is as per the 10 + 2 examination of CBSE pattern. Each MCQ consists of a stem and four responses, labelled A, B, C and D. Only one of the responses is correct and for each correct response the candidate will be awarded three marks and for each incorrect response one mark will be deducted from the total score.
