Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Admission 2008
The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has invited applications for admission to its B.Sc. Nautical Science program commencing in February 2008.
This program has been designed and developed in collaboration with the Directorate General of Shipping, so as to equip students for a career in the Merchant Navy.
Entry qualification is 10 +2 with physics, chemistry and mathematics with not less than 55 per cent marks in these three science subjects or B.Sc. Physics with 50 per cent marks or BE/B.Tech.
Candidates should have passed English with minimum 50 percent marks either in the 10/12 standards or in the degree level examinations.
Age should not be more than 20 years for Plus Two holders; 22 years for B.Sc. holders; and 24 for BE/B.Tech. holders as on January 1, 2008. Applicants should medically and physically fit and have normal eyesight.
Entrance test
Selection is on the basis of an All-India level entrance test to be held on December 23.
Last date for submission of application is December 3.

One year Nautical Science Diploma courses at SIMS, Lonavala. This will be followed by two years of practical onboard training under “Executive Ship Management” before appearing for ‘Second Mate’s examination. Indira Gandhi National Open University and the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS), Mumbai announces admissions in B.Sc. (Nautical Science) program commencing from 1 st February 2008. This program of IGNOU has been developed in collaboration with the DGS and is aimed at orienting the cadets for the, equivalent life at sea by providing vocationally oriented education and training so as to help them become officers in the Merchant Navy.
The eligibility conditions are:
(A) Educational (1) 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) with not less
IGNOU has launched a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering. Eligibility for this four-year programme is a three-year diploma in engineering. The students who have successfully completed at least the first year of a B.Tech programme and those who possess an advanced diploma or a diploma in Computer Integrated Manufacturing are also eligible for this B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering. Candidates should be employed in a central or state level industrial, organisation or in related organisations, employing similar manpower or self-employed in equivalent capacity.
