Indian Agricultural Research Institute was established in the Year 1905 at PUSA, Bihar. It s original name before 1947 was Imperial Agricultural Research Institute. After the Independence the name was changed to Indian Agricultural Research Institute. In the year 1936 due to a massive earth quake it was shifted to Pusa, New Delhi. Since Independence IARI, is a premier institute for Agricultural Research and was instrumental in 1960-70 Green Revolution. The Board of Management, with the Director as its chairman, served by four Councils, namely, Research Advisory Council, Academic Council, Extension Council and Executive Council, provides the over all management direction. The Director is assisted by a Joint Director (Research), a Dean, and a Joint Director (Extension) who are equivalent to the Directors of ICAR institutes which are not deemed universities. The Chief Finance and Accounts Officer has overall charge of audit and accounts matters.

The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Pusa, New Delhi -110 012, has invited applications for the All-India Agricultural Entrance Examination (AIAEA- 2008) for admission to the various undergraduate programs in agriculture and allied subjects (15 per cent seats), offered by State-level Agricultural universities and full seats in Central Agricultural University, Imphal, and National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal (Haryana).
Those who have passed Plus-Two with physics, chemistry, biology / mathematics with 50 per cent marks (40 per cent for SC/ST/PH candidates) are eligible to apply.
