Invites applications for admission into Master in Disability Rehabilitation Administration (MDRA) 2007-09
The National Institute for the Mentally Handicapped, established in1984, has so far trained more than 11,857 professionals and personnel in 11 different long term programs recognized by RCI and affiliated to different Universities. NIMH has organized many international and national conferences. In the continuous rehabilitation education programs, nearly 98,968 rehabilitation and health professionals, personnel and government officials have participated.
It has a team of highly qualified experts and specialists of various disciplines who are engaged not only in these HRD activities but also in (he research and development programs, some of which are in collaboration with international organizations.
These objectives apart, NIMH has developed service models and contributed very significantly in the dissemination and documentation. The performance in the extension and outreach programs is par excellence covering large areas across the country. It is a “vision”, “mission” and “value” driven organization having work culture appropriate to higher education. The Institute is a “Learning Organization”. The Institute’s values extend to equal opportunity, participation of people and gender-just practices with participation throughout the system.
The two-year MDRA program of semester mode is designed to prepare qualified and competent disability rehabilitation administrators for successfully managing the disability rehabilitation and research organizations in the country. The disability rehabilitation as an emerging field has now established academic and professional standards under the superintendence or Rehabilitation Council of India similar to Medical Council of India. There are more than six thousand organizations working in the field of disability rehabilitation.
A disability rehabilitation administrator is expected to deliver results as per the goals of the organization by converging, connecting and collaborating various resources and energies. This would include: a) organization of rehabilitation programs b) management of projects, environment and community management, finance & accounts management, human resource management and performance management c) organizational development, human resource development and research & development.
The program is practicum-oriented and research driven viz., strong component of practical, fieldwork, project research work and participatory learning in the form of seminar presentation and conferences. This will also include emphasis on both individual competencies and team competencies.
Eligibility for admission:
1. Candidate should have a Bachelors Degree in disability rehabilitation field recognized by Rehabilitation Council of India and/or Medical Council of India and / or Paramedical Professionals relating to rehabilitation (Physiotherapy / Occupational Therapy / Nursing / Laboratory Technology) with a minimum of 50% marks. OR
2. Masters Degree from a Recognized University in the field of Psychology, Rehabilitation Psychology, Social Work, Rehabilitation Social Work, and Business Management with a minimum of 50% marks.
Number of seats:
12 (Twelve) — Reservation for candidates belonging to SC, ST and for persons with physical disability in one lower limb only will be followed as per the Government of India guidelines.
The admission will be based on an entrance examination, group discussion and personal interview. The application cum prospectus can be procured from the Assistant Program Officer, NIMH, Manovikasnagar, and Secunderabad-500009 on payment of Rs.450/- in the case of General Category and Rs.350/- in the case of SC / ST / PH category by Demand Draft in favour of Director, NIMH, Secunderabad. Application meant for SC / ST / PH candidates, if used by general candidates, will be rejected.

Admission For M.Phil in Rehabilitation Psychology
Applications from eligible candidates are invited for admission to M.Phil in Rehabilitation Psychology for the academic year 2007-09. The course is designed to prepare a cadre of professionals with high quality competencies to work as Master Trainers / Specialists in the field of disability.
The course is affiliated to Osmania University, Hyderabad and recognized by Rehabilitation Council of India, New Delhi. The duration of the course is two academic years with English as medium of instruction.
