About The Institute
The National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD), started in 1963, is an apex institution under the Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, and Government of India. Designated as the “WHO Collaborating Centre for Epidemiology and Training” in 1996, the Institute is involved at National and international levels in developing trained manpower, conducting outbreak investigations, providing specialized diagnostic services and conducting operational studies.
Applications are invited from eligible candidates for the MPH (FE) course scheduled to commerce on 17 August 2006
Eligibility: Candidate fulfilling the following criteria is eligible to apply for the course:
MBBS degree from an Institution recognized by the Medical Council of India
M.Sc. in Biosciences/allied subjects or B.Tech. In Biotechnology from a recognized University with minimum 60% marks or equivalent in the qualifying examination (relax able by 5% for SC / ST, Defense category any Physically Handicapped candidates)
Age: The upper age limit is 45 for in – service candidates and 28 years for others as on 31st July 2006. The upper age limit can be relaxed up to maximum of 5 years in exceptional cases by the Admissions Officer is he/she is satisfied with the merit of the case.
Seats: In take will be limited to a maximum of 20 seats. Of this, 5 seats are earmarked for WHO – sponsored fellows
Distribution: Admission will be done on the basis of the Entrance Test for the remaining 15 seats; these will be distributed in the ratio of 60% for in – service candidates (working in Health Institutions / organizations in Central/ State Governments or Public Sector and having five years experience, of which at least 3 years should be in Public health activities) and 40% for Direct Candidates. A maximum of 10 seats are earmarked for candidates from medical stream and the rest for those from allied health sciences stream.
In- service candidates shall, at the time of application or counseling for admission, furnish a letter from their employer that, if they are admitted, they would be relieved for two years for undertaking the course on a full – time basis at NICD.
Selection: This will be on the basis of Entrance Test to conduct 16th July 2006 (Sunday) in Delhi. Additional test Centres can be considered at Mumbai, Kolkata and Bangalore, subject to availability of sufficient candidates
WHO – sponsored candidates are exempted from appearing in the Entrance Test, admission for such candidates will be made by the University on the basis of Merit.

Application from the Information Bulletin for admission to MPH (FE) for the academic session 2006 – 07 will be available between 10- 00 am and 2-00 p.m. on all working days from 12th June to 3rd July, 2006 on payment of Rs.400/- in the form of Demand Draft in favour of “Director, NICD”, payable at “Delhi”. For obtaining the same by registered post, a crossed demand draft for Rs.450/- in favour of “Director, NICD” payable at “Delhi” should be sent to the administrative Officer (l), National Institute of Communicable Diseases, 22, Sham Nath Marg, New Delhi- 110 054, so as to reach the Institute by 23rd June 2006.
Applications, Complete in all respects, should be submitted to the Director, NICD on or before 5. p.m on 3rd July 2006. Applications, forwarded by post, should reach the office of Director, National Institute of Communicable Diseases, 22 Sham Nath Meg, Delhi – 110 054 latest by 5 p.m on 3rd July 2006.
