Courses offered: PRL offers a five-year doctoral programme in Physics (Theoretical Physics & Complex Systems, Space & Atmospheric Sciences and Quantum Optics & Quantum Information), Astronomy, Astrophysics & Solar Physics, Planetary & Geosciences, leading to a Ph.D degree.
Eligibility: M. Sc. in one of the following subjects: Physics, Space Sciences, Atmospheric Sciences, Chemistry (Physical/ Nuclear/ Analytical), Geology, Geophysics, Oceanography, Marine Sciences. Engineering students with M.E./M.Tech. degree (in Electronics and Communication or Computer Engineering or Information Technology or Mechanical Engineering) shall also be considered eligible to pursue the Ph.D. programme in Physical Sciences. A minimum of 55% marks at Master’s level and Physics & Mathematics at B.Sc. level (for Engineering students at B.E./B. Tech. level) are compulsory. Candidates must have a first class either at graduation or post-graduation level. Those appearing for Master’s Degree examination in 2007 are also eligible to apply.

Selection Procedure : Written test, followed by personal interview for those who qualify based on the written test. These will be held at the PRL Main Campus at Ahmedabad. Written test may be waived for the following: Candidates who have qualified any one of the following: (i) JEST-2007, with rank 95 percentile or higher; (ii) GATE (in Physics/ Engineering) in 2006/2007, with rank 95 percentile or higher; (iii) UGC-CSIR NET in 2005/2006 in Subject Code–1: Chemical Sciences, or Subject Code–2: Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean & Planetary Sciences, or Subject Code–5: Physical Sciences. A photocopy of result of the GATE/NET certificate must accompany the application. JEST-2007 qualified candidates should mention their roll number, rank and percentile.
