The programme India Millennium Scholars Program (IMS) aspires to be India’s Premier Scholarship for higher professional education for highly accomplished and deserving individuals from India. The enrichment of human capital at par with the best that the world can offer and its direct use for India’s overall socio-economic development are the prime concerns that drive the India Millennium Scholars Program. The IMS Program is a personal initiative of B.V. Jagadeesh of the Seva Sangama Pratishtana to create the finest professional leaders for India in the New Millennium who demonstrate the potential to serve the country in diverse, significant capacities. Terms and Conditions: There shall be certain other terms “and conditions which the Scholars shall have to agree to, details of which are communicated to the selected candidates. It shall completely fund tuition, living expenses, travel and other miscellaneous expenses of the selected scholars. The IMS Program is not meant for funding any undergraduate program/MA/MS/Ph.D./Post-doctoral Programs/ Specific research projects.

Eligibility: All five conditions are equally and strictly applicable for the short-listing process:

(1) Must be an Indian Citizen and must be below 35 years of age as on the specified date;

(2) Must display serious financial need: All combined sources of income must not exceed $ 12000 per annum/Rs. 5 lakhs per annum at the time of application to the Scholarship;

(3) Must have demonstrable qualities if Leadership in significant positions, professional work experience of at least 5 years (full time) in diverse areas and an outstanding overall record of personal achievements;

(4) Must have a superior academic record;

(5) Must submit confirmable/ definitive proof of working in Government/non-profit sector in India after their return.

Selection Process: There would be two rounds of selection. The first round would comprise of screening of detailed resumes based on the criteria given above to select a short-list of candidates who would be required to appear for an interview. They would also be required to submit an essay of about 500-750 words describing themselves, their career objectives, as to how they would contribute to India’s overall development, especially in areas like rural development, human development (education and health) and poverty alleviation and how the IMS Program would help them achieve their goals.

The Final Selection would be made on the overall record and performances of the candidate in the interview. The interview would be held in Bangalore in November for which only the short-listed candidates would be individually informed by post/e-mail/fax.

(i) Financial Assistance to Professional Groups and Individuals for Specified Performing Art Projects.

Areas: Theatre, Dance, Drama, Music, Rare and other Traditional forms. The support is available to well conceived projects including Literary Expressions and Multimedia Productions related to performing arts, with preference being given to experimental and innovative reinterpretetion. Project assistance at a maximum is of Rs. 1 lakh and intended to cover rental for Halls for rehearsals, Transport contingencies, Research expenditure etc. The Department, however, reserves the right to relax the ceiling on assistance in exceptional cases of larger repertoires/productions. The Department may also provide financial assistance, if necessary, for the staging of productions in selected cases. Assistance is given on the condition that the recipient will stage the production, if the Department so wishes, at a venue indicated and arranged by it.

The Scheme also admits support to a limited number of organizations of some standing in the field of performing arts, that employ gurus/ directors for their creative endeavours. Preference is given to those organizations that justify such engagement of artistes/gurus in terms of well focused annual programme of productions - employment of teachers and gurus will have to be a means to a creative end. Monthly salary to an artiste and to a guru will be Rs. 3,000 and Rs. 5,000 per month respectively. The Department’s support will be available to a maximum of twenty artistes.

(ii) Award of Fellowships to Outstanding Artists of Performing, Literary and Plastic Arts (The Scheme provides basic financial support for either very advanced training of individual creative effort to outstanding personalities in the fields of performing, literary and plastic arts).

Eligibility: Indian nationals who are outstanding artists in the fields of Performing, Literary and Visual Arts. Duration: 2 years. Age: 25-65 years.

Value:

(a) Out of a total of 200 Fellowships, 50 Fellowships have a value of Rs. 6,000 per month, and 150 Fellowships have value of Rs. 3,000 per month.

(b) The Junior Fellowship provides financial support to outstanding Artistes in the age group of 25-35 years. Fellowships have a value of Rs. 3,000 per month for a period of two years.

(c) The Senior Fellowship provides Financial support to outstanding Artists in the age group of 40 and above Rs. 6,000 per month for period of two years. Last date: April.

This Fellowship is offered for Women Scientists for Research in S&T Based Societal Programmes. This scheme has been instituted with an aim to provide an opportunity to women scientists to enter the professional field after a break in career.

Nature of the fellowship: This Fellowship is announced every year. Support will include a grant of Rs.15,000 per month for level I and Rs.10,000 per month for level II for a period of two years, along with grant for minor equipment, consumable, travels.

Eligibility: Indian nationals living in India and who possess Ph.D. degree in Science, Masters degree in Engineering or Technology Architecture (for level I), Masters degree in Science or Bachelors degree in Engineering or Medicine, Architecture (for level II). Applicant should be a women below the age of 50 years as on the specified date.

Note: Applicant should not be holding a regular position. If employed, a certificate from the head of the organization may be furnished recommending the candidature and agreeing to release her for the duration of the scholarship. The project proposal should be submitted in active collaboration with an academic/R&D institution or an S&T based voluntary organization, which has a similar mandate and the necessary infrastructure in the chosen subject area. A certificate from the host institute regarding extending their commitment for infrastructure and administrative support for the project would be required.

The Fellowships are awarded for undertaking research oriented projects. While both the academic research and performance related research are encouraged, the applicant should provide evidence of his/her capabilities in undertaking the project.

The Fellowships are not intended for providing training, conducting workshops, seminars or documenting memoirs/or writing autobiographies/ficition etc.

No. of Scholarship: A total of 170 Fellowships is awarded. Duration: Maximum period of two years.

Value:

(a) 85 are Senior Fellowships having a value of Rs. 12000 p.m. for Artistes in the age group of 41 years or above.

(b) 85 are Junior Fellowships having a value of Rs. 6000 p.m. for the Artistes in the age group of 25-40 years.

c) The Department reserves the right to call the short-listed Junior Fellowships candidates for Interview.

d) Selected candidates will have to undertake academic or application oriented research work on the projects for which they have been awarded fellowships. They will completed their project document within two years and submit the same to this Department

Instruction:

(a) The applicant for the Senior Fellowship should not have earlier availed Senior Fellowship under any of the fields. The candidates who have availed Junior Fellowship earlier and intend to apply for the Senior Fellowships can apply only if there is a gap of five years from the date of completion of their Junior Fellowship under any of the fields.

(b) If the applicants are employed in the Central/State Government Departments/Institutions/Undertaking/Universities, UGC aided colleges etc. They will have to take leave for a period of two years if selected for the grant of fellowship. They should submit their fellowships applications through the Head of the Department / Institution/Undertaking/University etc. with the written assurance that in case the Fellowship is sanctioned, the candidate would be granted leave for the duration of the fellowship as per rules of the Department/Institutions etc. The first installment of Fellowship will be released on production of proof of leave sanctioned in addition to fulfillment of other conditions as applicable to other Fellowship Awardees.

(c) Books/Brochures/Cassettes must not be sent.

(d) In case of visual arts, six photographs of the applicant’s work should be appended with the application.

(e) Application should not be a recipient of Pension from the Department of Culture, Govt. of India under the scheme of grant of financial assistance to Artistes in indigent circumstances.

(1) Doctoral Fellowship Scheme for Criminology and Police Science to Indian National for the award of 6 Fellowships for Doctoral work in Criminology and Police Science.

Eligibility: lst/2nd Class Master’s degree in (not less than 55% marks or equivalent grade) in Criminology or Sociology or Social Work or Psychology or Social Anthropology or Public Administration or Political Science or Law with II class Bachelor’s degree in aforesaid subject. The candidate should have passed NET for Junior Research Fellowships. The candidate should be registered for Ph.D. programme with any recognised University in India or should get registered with three months of the award of fellowship. Age: Preferably below the age of 30 years.

Value of each fellowship is Rs. 5,000 per month for the first two years and Rs. 5,600 in the third year plus a contingency grant of Rs. 5,000 per annum. The Fellowships are tenable for three years. Departmental assistance of Rs. 3,000 per year will be paid to the Institution in which the fellow is registered for the Ph.D.

Selection would be restricted to only those candidates who have passed National Eligibility Test for Junior Research Fellowships conducted by University Grants Commission.
