SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME FOR WOMEN HAVING SCIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:
The Department of Science and Technology has launched a scholarship scheme for women having science qualifications for training in the area of intellectual property rights especially in patent searches, understanding of patent specification and preparation of technology scan report.

Long term objectives:

1. Empower the talented and skilled women who have studied science, engineering and medicines to contribute effectively in the advancement of science and technology in the country.

2. Develop a pool of women in India ready to undertake scientific and technical aspects of intellectual property rights.

Short term objectives:

1. Trained, talented and skilled women who have studied science, engineering and medicines in patent searches and other aspects of intellectual property rights enabling them to seek specialized employment or be self employed.

2. Develop a core of professionals for preparing specialized reports such as technology scan based on patent information.

3. Deve’op a pool of resource persons in intellectual property rights for conducting workshops on IPR.

Eligibility:

1. Candidates should be M.Sc. /Ph.D. in physical sciences, chemical sciences, life sciences or B.Tech. or B.E./M.Tech orMBBS/MS/MD with good academic record. Candidates with higher qualifications can also apply.

2. Candidates should have good familiarity with computers in handling databases, surfing the net and information search.

DEPARTMENT OF SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY (Ministry of Science & Technology) offers DST Scholarships for Research in Basic/Applied Sciences under Women Scientists Scheme.
The “Women Scientists Scheme” of the Department of Science & Technology is aimed to provide opportunities to women scientists atid technologists for pursuing research in frontier areas of science &â–  engineering. A special provision has ?!so been maH? uncier this Scheme to encourage those women scientists who have had break/s in their careers. It provides a launch pad for them up to the age of 50 years to return to mainstream science and work as benc^ level scientists in the field of science & technology.

Scientific disciplines for the Scholarship: The scholarships have been instituted i the following subject areas: Physical (1), Chemical (2), Mathematical (3), Life Sciences (4), Earth Sciences (5), Atmospheric Sciences (6), Engineering Sciences (7) and Other Science Streams (8). These subject areas would be identified b\ the respective subject codes (1 - 8) as given in the associated parenthesis , project proposal should be submitted in active collaboration with an acad’ n R & D institution in the chosen subject area.

Support: This scheme would provide a research grant with an upper limit of Rs. 15jakhs for the sanctioned R & D project proposal for a period of three years towards the cost of small Equipment, Contingencies, Travel and Consumables. Apart from this, the selected women scientists, if not holding regular positions, would receive a Research Scholarship. Institutional Overhead Charges would be extra.

Eligibility: Women scientists, with minimum Post Graduate degree equivalent to M.Sc. in Basic or Applied Science, B.Tech in Engineering Sciences and MBBS or other equivalent professional qualifications, are eligible for this scheme. Maximum age limit for candidates with post graduate or equivalent qualification is 35 years at the time of submission of the application. The amount of Research Scholarship for such candidates would be Rs. 10,000/-p.m. Candidates Possessing a Ph.D. in Basic or Applied Sciences, M.Tech in Engineering Sciences and MD/MS, DM/MCH in Medical Sciences from recognized Universities can apply up to the age of 50 years. The amount of Research Scholarship for such candidates would be Rs. 15,000/- p.m.

For the candidates applying under the “Break in Career” category, a minimum of two years of break in service is required.

Age relaxation of 5 years would be given to candidates belonging to SC/ST/ OBC and Physically Handicapped Category. Necessary attested copies of supporting documents to this effect must be enclosed.

NATIONAL BOARD FOR HIGHER MATHEMATICS, DEPARTMENT OF ATOMIC ENERGY, O.Y.C. Building, C.S.M. Marg, Mumbai 400001 offers Scholarships for pursuing Post-Graduate Studies (M.AVM.Sc.) in Mathematics.

Eligibility: Applicants should be motivated students with 1st Class Bachelor’s degree or equivalent grade qualified to pursue M.A./M.Scin Mathematics. Students studying in their last semester of B.Sc. with good academic record can also apply. Age: 22 years. Exceptional cases would, however, be considered on merit.

DEPARTMENT OF ATOMIC ENERGY (DAE), Graduate Fellowship Scheme.
DAE Graduate Fellowship Schemes are being developed to further strengthen research-education linkage in areas of interest to DAE programs. DAE Institute MTech scheme is one such scheme and provides excellent career opportunity for pursuing prestigious programmes of the Department to students qualifying for admission to the MTech course in Indian Institute of Technology at Kanpur or Mumbai (likely to be extended to other NT’s particularly at Delhi & Chennai). Student pursuing specified specialisation (such as Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering & Technology, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Control & Power Engineering, Applied Optics, Lasers & Optoelectronics etc.) can qualify for admission to the Scheme.

Highlights of the Scheme:

Candidates are paid to and fro sleeper class fare between their residence and Mumbai.

(2) Age: 26 years as on September 1st. and found medically fit by BARC Hospital. Relaxation in age (5 years) for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC candidates is admissible.

(3) Monthly stipend of Rs. 8,000/- with other allowance including tuition fees would be paid during the 2-year period of the MTech Courses.

(4) Project Guides from the DAE and IIT would decide Elective/Audit courses and project work for the MTech candidates under this scheme.

(5) On joining this scheme, the selected candidate would have to sign an agreement -In case of non-compliance, the candidate would have to refund the stipend, all allowances and the tuition fee paid by DAE.

(6) On successful completion of the MTech course, the candidate would join a 4-month Orientation Course for Engineering Post-Graduate (OCEP) conducted at BARC Training School, Mumbai starting from 1st August. Scholarships for Undergraduate Studies in Singapore

Singapore Airline and Neptune Orient Lines invite applications for undergraduate scholarships tenable at the National University of Singapore ((NUS) and the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) commencing July. The scholarships are for 3 to 4-year studies in Science, Engineering, Computing and Computer Engineering courses, leading to the award of’a Bachelor Degree or a Bachelor Degree with Honours. The degrees are internationally recognised. Students with consistently outstanding academic results would have the opportunity to pursue a Master’s Programme on scholarship.

Terms of Award: The scholarship would provide a maintenance allowance of S$6,000 per annum, an accommodation and settling-in allowance, tuition fees and other compulsory fees, return air passage at the beginning and end of the scholarship term.

Upon graduation, scholars would work for the sponsoring companies or other approved organisations in Singapore for 6 years, enjoying the same salary and benefits as other employees.
