SCHOLARSHIPS IN DEPARTMENT OF SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY
DEPARTMENT OF SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY (Ministry of Science & Technology) offers DST Scholarships for Research in Basic/Applied Sciences under Women Scientists Scheme.
The “Women Scientists Scheme” of the Department of Science & Technology is aimed to provide opportunities to women scientists atid technologists for pursuing research in frontier areas of science &■ engineering. A special provision has ?!so been maH? uncier this Scheme to encourage those women scientists who have had break/s in their careers. It provides a launch pad for them up to the age of 50 years to return to mainstream science and work as benc^ level scientists in the field of science & technology.
Scientific disciplines for the Scholarship: The scholarships have been instituted i the following subject areas: Physical (1), Chemical (2), Mathematical (3), Life Sciences (4), Earth Sciences (5), Atmospheric Sciences (6), Engineering Sciences (7) and Other Science Streams (8). These subject areas would be identified b\ the respective subject codes (1 -
as given in the associated parenthesis , project proposal should be submitted in active collaboration with an acad’ n R & D institution in the chosen subject area.
Support: This scheme would provide a research grant with an upper limit of Rs. 15jakhs for the sanctioned R & D project proposal for a period of three years towards the cost of small Equipment, Contingencies, Travel and Consumables. Apart from this, the selected women scientists, if not holding regular positions, would receive a Research Scholarship. Institutional Overhead Charges would be extra.
Eligibility: Women scientists, with minimum Post Graduate degree equivalent to M.Sc. in Basic or Applied Science, B.Tech in Engineering Sciences and MBBS or other equivalent professional qualifications, are eligible for this scheme. Maximum age limit for candidates with post graduate or equivalent qualification is 35 years at the time of submission of the application. The amount of Research Scholarship for such candidates would be Rs. 10,000/-p.m. Candidates Possessing a Ph.D. in Basic or Applied Sciences, M.Tech in Engineering Sciences and MD/MS, DM/MCH in Medical Sciences from recognized Universities can apply up to the age of 50 years. The amount of Research Scholarship for such candidates would be Rs. 15,000/- p.m.
For the candidates applying under the “Break in Career” category, a minimum of two years of break in service is required.
Age relaxation of 5 years would be given to candidates belonging to SC/ST/ OBC and Physically Handicapped Category. Necessary attested copies of supporting documents to this effect must be enclosed.

I’m an Electronics & Telecom Engineer. I was invited to NASA’s Marshal Center recently to attend a Space Training Programme. I wish to pursue further studies in Space Science. I would be writing a book on Life and Works of Kalpana Chawla also, and I’d be traveling extensively. So, I’m trying for Scholarship.
