SCHOLARSHIPS IN KISHORE VAIGYANIK PROTSAHAN YOJANA

KISHORE VAIGYANIK PROTSAHAN YOJANA (KVPY)

Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, offers attractive fellowship (Rs. 2000 to Rs. 5000 p.m.) and contingency grants in Basic Science, Engineering and Medicine. Selection to the programme is competitive and takes into account academic excellence and demonstrated interests in pursuing research. Selection is open to all Indian nationals studying in India. Selection procedures are different for Basic Sciences, Engineering and Medicine. AH of them however include a national level interview for final selection.

Eligibility:

(1) Basic Sciences: (up to 120 Fellowships).

Stream SA: Students enrolled in XI Standard (Science Subjects) in the current
year and having secured a minimum of 75% marks aggregate in Science and
Mathematics in X standard Board Examination.

Stream SB: Students enrolled in 1st year Science undergraduate programme (B.Sc/ lntegrated M.Sc. in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics/Statistics or Biological Sciences, B.Maths./B.Stat) and having secured a minimum of 60% marks in Science and Mathematics in XII standard Board Examination.

Stream SP: Students pursuing Science and enrolled in XI, XII or B.Sc. (I or II year) can apply for KVPY by completing a research project.

(2) Engineering: (up to 25 Fellowships)

Stream EA: Students enrolled in first year B.E./B.Tech./B.Arch and having minimum of 60% marks in Science and Mathematics subjects in XII standard Board Examination.

Stream EB: Students enrolled second year B.E./B.Tech/B.Arch and having I class in the first year exam of B.E./B.Tech/B.Arch.

(3) Medicine: (up to 25 Fellowships)

Stream MA: Students enrolled in second year MBBS in the current year and having a minimum of 75% marks in Science subjects in XII standard examination. Students must have joined the MBBS programme in the previous year and passed the first professional exam, with Anatomy, Biochemistry and Physiology in the current year.

Selection Procedure:

Basic Sciences (SA and SB): For streams SA and SB, selection is based on the performance in the Board examination, up to 6000 candidates would be called for a written aptitude test (multiple choice). The top students in this aptitude test (about 500 candidates) would be called for an interview, which is the final stage of the selection procedure.

Basic Sciences (SP), Engineering (EA, EB) and Medicine (MA): The applicant is required to submit a report of a project chosen and executed by her/him exclusively for this application. This report has to be supervised by a teacher/ professional in the relevant field. Based on the project submitted and scrutiny of application forms, short-listed candidates are called for an interview which is the final stage of the selection procedure.

Application Forms: Each stream has a different application form. Students who wish to apply for the Fellowship in both Basic Sciences and Engineering must submit separate requisitions. Requisition for application form should be sent to the Convenor, Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore 560012 (Kar.).
