Scholarships
Financial Aid: At the undergraduate and college level there is very little financial assistance/ scholarships available. Check with the individual educational institution you are applying to.
At the graduate level some scholarships are available with the individual universities, based on the students academic achievement.
For the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship plan you may apply to the External Scholarship Division, Dept. of Education, Ministry of HRD, Government of India, Shastri Bhavan, New Delhi 110001. Postgraduate students may be eligible for research or technical assistant’s positions within their faculty.
Assistantships: Students at the graduate level may qualify for assistantships (assisting professors in teaching and research) based on their academic abilities. Applications for this type of assistance are made through the university’s financial aid office. Your local Canadian Education Center also carries information on scholarships.
Generally scholarships are not awarded by colleges but financial aid is provided in the form of graduate scholarships, bursaries, fellowships, grants, assistantships and teaching assistantship. Scholarships are not provided by the Canadian Universities to foreign students pursuing undergraduate study. While the number of applicants for scholarships is quite large, assistanships are offered only to the graduate level students according to their academic merit. Assistantships (teaching & research) are helpful in meeting your financial needs to limited extent and do not cover the entire expenses on study. If you are keen on obtaining financial aid you must start enquiring quite well in advance, say about a year, whether the institutions you intend to join do have such provisions or not. The process of granting scholarships and awards usually precede the last dates fixed for making university applications .You can ascertain details of financial aid from these institutions.
International Students/Graduates between the age of 18 to 30 years who are registered with a post-secondary institution are allowed to combine employment with time for leisure and exploring their host country for a period of 3 months to one year under the Student Work Abroad Programme (SWAP).
