offers Research Awards in Mathematics: Eligibility: Master’s degree in Mathematics with more than 65% marks. Students having a Master’s degree in Statistics or Physics may also apply provided they have a very good background in Mathematics as indicated by the courses taken by them as also by the testimonials submitted. Students who have appeared for their Master’s degree examination may also apply. Age: Less than 25 years as on January 1 of the year of award.

Selection is made on the basis of a Written Test and an Interview to assess the aptitude of the candidate for Research. They are expected to indicate their choice of area out of Pure Mathematics/Applied Mathematics/Statistics/Mathematical Physics in which they wish to be examined, if called for test/interview.

Selected students are expected to attach themselves to an Institution and to work towards a Ph.D. Degree in Mathematics. They are paid a scholarship through the institutions in which they get registered. The scholarship is renewable at the end of each year subject to satisfactory progress.

Value: During the first two years, the awardee is paid Rs. 2,700/- per month. The award amount may be increased to Rs.3,000/- per month at the end of the second year after an evaluation of the progress of the awardee by the Board. A contingency grant of Rs. 5,000/- per annum is given. Notification: March. Last date: April.
