About TIET
Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology (TIET), Patiala, one of the trinity institutions on the Thapar Technology Campus (TTC), Patiala has just entered into its Golden Jubilee year. The other two members of TTC are Thapar Polytechnic College and Thapar Centre for Industrial Research and Development. The saga that started way back in 1956 with engineering college offering degrees in Electrical, Mechanical and civil has grown by leaps and bounds into a Deemed University having eight departments, five schools and eight centers offering degrees at undergraduate, post graduate and Doctoral levels. All disciplines of B.E. Programme are accredited with ‘A’ Grade for 5 years by NBA and the Institute has UGC-NAAC accredited score of 82.5 with ISO 9001-2000 Certification. Recent survey of NASSCOM Data Quest IDC rated TIET at 9th rank among Top TECH. Schools in the country. Thapar Centre for Industrial Research & Development (TCIRD) synergises with science and Technology Entrepreneurship Park (STEP) and TIFAC-CORE engaged in Research in Biotechnology, both DST, GOI sponsored institutions.

New Programmes
In the last few years TIET has started many programmes both at under graduate and post graduate level B.Tech. in Technology, M.Tech. in VLSI design and CAD, M.Tech. in chemical Engg; M.E. in Computer Science and Engineering are some such programmes. As a first of its kind initiative, the institute is starting a BE -MBA dual degree programme of 5 years duration in the year 2006-2007 and many other new programmes are in the pipeline.

State-of-the-Art Facilities:
The student strength on the campus has increased from a meager 60 in 1956 to 2600 in year 2006 and is expected to double by 2015. Keeping in view the increase in student the institute has recently come up with two additional State-of-the-art hostels, one for boys (360 seats) and one for girls (311 seats), with all facilities like internet access in each room, library, washing room and pantry, gymnasiums etc. One new boys hostel with 600 seats has also been planned in this Golden Jubilee year.
The institute has also recently renovated its cafeteria and food court, and Sagar Ratna a premier food chain of South India has stepped in and is taking care of the culinary needs of the students on campus. A state-of-the-art Student Activity Centre has also been planned in the ensuring GJ year to cater to the co-curricular and extra curricular needs of the student population. The institute has grown strongly and kept pace with the IT revolution which has engulfed not only India but also whole of the world. The campus is electronically connected to the outside world through a 4 Mbps lease line with nearly 2150 nodes spread across various campus locations including institute, hostels, residencies etc. In addition to this there are plans to have 100% Digital classrooms, and various other facilities like EduSat and Video Conferencing.
Golden Jubilee Celebrations
The Institute has also planned many activities to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of its inception. A few of them include organization of a National Level Science and Technology Exhibition, a national level quiz contest, a GJY Marathon involving faculty, staff, students and alumni of the institute, Distinguished Alumnus Awards etc.

BE/B.Tech Programme
Admissions to the following BE/B.Tech programmes shall be made on the basis of merit in All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE-2006) conducted by CBSE, New Delhi on April 30,2006
BE in Chemical Engg, Civil Engg, Computer Engg, Electrical Engg, Electronics and Communication Engg, Electronics (Instrumentation and Control) Engg, Mechanical Engg. And B.Tech in Biotechnology.
50% of the sanctioned seats of BE/B.Tech programme are reserved for the candidates who have passed 10+2 from institutes located outside Punjab.
MCA/MSc (Biotechnology) Programme
Admissions to MCA/MSc (Biotechnology) programme shall be made on the basis of merit in the Entrance Test to be conducted by TIET, Patiala at Delhi and Patiala. Candidates are required to send completely filled up from appended with the Institute. Brochure on or before May 29, 2006 along with a Demand Draft of Rs.1000/- in favour of The Registrar, TIET payable at Patiala. The counselling for admission will be held at TIET on July 15, 2006.
ME/M.Tech/PhD
Admissions to ME/M.Tech programmes in the following disciplines will be made and preference will be given to GATE qualified candidates.
