The Indian Navy - Senior Secondary Recruits (SSR) 2007

Invites Applications from Unmarried Male Candidates for Enrolment as Sailors for Senior Secondary Recruits
Course Commencing August 2007

Eligibility Conditions: Applications are invited from unmarried Male Indian Citizen.

Educational Qualifications: Minimum 45% or more aggregate marks in 10+2/equivalent with compulsory subjects Maths and Physics, optional subjects Chemistry/Biology/Computers.

Age: Candidates should have been born between 01 Aug 1986 to 31 Jul 1990 (Both dates inclusive).

Pay & Allowances:
During the initial training period approximate emoluments will be Rs.4500/- pm.
On completion of initial training the approximate emoluments at present rate depending on rank and number of years of service will be Rs.5300/- to Rs.16,000/- pm.

Promotion: Promotion prospects exist up to the rank of Master Chief Petty Office-I (equivalent to Subedar Major). Opportunities for promotion to commissioned officer also exist for those who perform well and qualify the prescribed examinations.

Perquisites
:
During the entire period of training and thereafter, sailors are given books, reading material, uniform, food and accommodation etc. free of cost.

Sailors are entitled to medical treatment and Leave Travel Concession for self and dependents, Group Housing Benefits and other privileges, Insurance cover of Rs.750, 000/- is at nominal premium of Rs.750/- per month. Sailors also have the privilege to avail up to 60 days Annual and 30 days Casual Leave and one free railway warrant every year. Post retirement benefits include pension, gratuity and Leave encashment. Children education and house rent allowances are also admissible.

Selection Criteria: Selection of recruits is based on the order of merit depending on their performance in Written Test, Physical Fitness Test (PFT) and fitness in the Medical Examinations.

Written Test:

The question paper will be bilingual (Hindi & English) and objective type.
The question paper will comprise of four sections i.e. English, Science, Mathematics and General Knowledge.
The standard of the question paper will be that of 10+2.
Duration of question paper will be of one hour.
The candidates are required to pass in all sections and in aggregate.

Physical Fitness Test (PFT):

PFT will consist of 1.6 Km run to be completed in 7 minutes. 25 squal ups (Uthak Baithak) and 10 Push-ups. Candidates undergoing PFT will do so at their own risk.

Medical Standards:

Medical examination will be conducted by authorized military doctors as per medical standard prescribed in current regulations applicable to sailors on entry.

Minimum height 157 cms. Weight and Chest should be proportionate. Minimum Chest expansion of 5 cms.
Good mental, medical and physical health free from any disease / disability, likely to Interfere with efficient performance of duties. Colour perception: CP II.

No Cardio-vascular disease, surgical deformities like knock knee, flat feet etc. infection of ears, no history of fits or psychiatric ailment, varicose vein, corrective surgery for eye sight etc.

Medical standard should be as per the detailed guidelines issued by IHQ MoD (Navy) in No (Spl) 01/1999.
Candidates are advised to get their ears cleaned for wax and tartar removed from teeth prior to examination.

Applicants declared Permanent medically unfit by any Armed Forces Hospital in previous recruitment in Navy are advised not to apply.

Final Enrolment Medical Examination: All select list candidates who are issued with an offer of enrolment will have to undergo Final Enrolment Medical Examination at INS Chilka prior to enrolment. Candidates found “unfit” during this medical examination will not be enrolled for training. No “appeal” is permitted for review after the final enrolment Medical at INS Chilka.

Training and Initial Engagement

Training: The training for the course will commence of 06 Aug 2007, with 24 weeks Basic Training at INS Chilka followed by Professional training in the allotted trade in various Naval Training Establishments. Branch / Trade will be allocated as per the requirement of Service.

Discharge as Unsuitable: Sailors are liable to be discharged as Unsuitable due to unsatisfactory performance at any time during the training.

Initial Engagement: The initial engagement is subjected to successful completion of training. The initial engagement is of 15 years.

Selection Procedure

The application format is given at the end of this advertisement. The selection procedure is as follows:
Application will be received only through Ordinary Post. Application received through speed post/registered post or couriers will be rejected.

Short-listing criteria will be based on higher education and percentage of marks.

Call up letters to eligible short listed candidates will be posted, indicating date, time and place for Written and Physical Fitness tests, which are scheduled during Mar-May 2007.

All original certificates and mark sheets are to be produced at the time of written examination.
Results of the Written Test will be announced on the same day.

Those who qualify Written test will undergo PFT and Medical Examination, which may take 3-4 days.
Candidates declared Medically Permanent Unfit in the initial recruitment medicals can appeal for specialist opinion in a Military Hospital within 21 days on payment of Rs.40/- by Military Receivable Order (MRO) on Government Treasury. (Medical fitness certificate other than that of the specialist opinion in the designated Military Hospital will not be considered) No further review/appeal is permissible.

The selected list will be prepared from the candidates who qualify in all respects depending upon the available vacancies. The centre wise select list of candidates (depending upon the numbers to be inducted) will be displayed at the respective Recruitment Centres on 27 Jun 2007. All candidates whose names appear in the Select list and have been declared medically fit in the Recruitment Medical would be required to report to INS Chilka. However, enrolment will be subject to Enrolment Medical fitness at INS Chilka.

The candidature of candidates selected is valid for the current batch only.

Offer of enrolment will be forwarded only to medically qualified candidates in the select list. Unsuccessful candidates will not be intimated separately.

No enquiry will be entertained regarding recruitment / enrolment after a period of six months.

How to apply

Application Form: The application is to be submitted on A4 size paper only as per the given format. Only one application form is to be forwarded. Candidates who send more than one application for the same entry will be disqualified. Forms can also be downloaded from internet: www.nausena-bharti.nic.in

Envelops: The type of entry, choice of centre and percentage of marks in 10+2 board examination is to be clearly written on top of the envelope containing the application, Envelopes should be of brown colour.

List of Documents: The following documents are to be punched and tied firmly with a strong thread to the application in the sequence below:-
Attested copy of Matriculation certificate. Any other certificate/marks sheet for verification of Date of Birth is not acceptable.
Attested cop of 10+2/ equivalent examination mark sheet & certificate.
Attested copy of any other certificate i.e. NCC/Sports etc.
Two self-addressed envelops of size 22 × 10 cms with Rs.10/- stamp affixed on one envelope.
One photocopy of Domicile Certificate attested by Gazetted Officer / Sarpanch is to be enclosed along with the application.

Photographs: Candidates are required to submit 3 recent coloured passport size photographs with the negative thereof along with the application with their name and signature on the reverse of the photograph. The Photograph is to be taken with candidate holding a black slate in front of his chest with his name, Date of Birth, Date of Photograph and state to which the candidate hails from, clearly written with white chalk in capital letters. The Background of the photograph should be blue. Application received without photographs and negative or not in the specified format will be rejected.

Note: Attesting Officer’s name with office address and seal should be clear and legible. The contours of the thumb impression is to be clear & ink is not to be smudged.

Selection Criteria: Deserving candidates would be called to appear for trials at designated Naval Centres. The candidates qualifying trials will undergo medical examination at INS Hamla, Mumbai. The offer of enrolment will be forwarded to the selected candidates only, which will be strictly determined by requirement in particular sports disciplines and availability of vacancies. Request for change of venue of selection trials will not be entertained. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

Note: Candidates are to choose only one centre for examination and mention the centre on the envelop. However, for administrative reasons, Navy may allot any suitable centre. Further Navy will not be responsible for any postal delay/loss of any documents during transit.
